‘Cornerstone gathering’ for cardiovascular and lipid research set to take place in Crieff next month
16th October 2024
Registration has opened for next month’s Scottish Heart & Arterial disease Risk Prevention (SHARP) and Scottish Lipid Forum (SLF) annual meeting
Taking place at the Crieff Hydro Hotel on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 November, the gathering will spotlight the latest advancements in cardiovascular and lipid research while providing a platform for meaningful discussion and knowledge exchange.
Its prime focus will be on “the crucial interface between primary and secondary care in cardiovascular and metabolic conditions,” including lipid disorders, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, heart failure, intracerebral haemorrhage and other relevant areas.
Attendees can expect state-of-the-art lectures delivered by eminent clinician scientists, hands-on workshops discussing specific scenarios, as well as a range of original contributions.
The event – considered by organisers to be a “cornerstone gathering” – is expected to attract primary and secondary care professionals from all corners of Scotland, including experts in stroke, lipid, cardiac, metabolic, and other specialisms.
The meeting will further bring together industry leaders and members of the public.
It will be co-chaired by the University of Glasgow’s Professor of Cardiovascular Prevention, and Head of the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health, Christian Delles of SHARP; and consultant chemical pathologist, clinical lead for the Lipid Clinic, and Department of Clinical Biochemistry at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh, Dr Jonathan Malo of SLF.
SHARP is a heart charity that aims to reduce cardiovascular disease through healthcare research and educational initiatives, while SLF is a group of health care professionals with an interest in lipids, cardiovascular risk, and prevention of cardiovascular disease.
SHARP trustee, NHS Research Scotland (NRS) Cardiovascular Champion, and Head of the Centre for Cardiovascular Health, Edinburgh Napier University, Lis Neubeck, said the meeting will offer “a dynamic programme” featuring “valuable insights, networking opportunities, and discussions with leading experts”.
She added: “The event is an opportunity to connect with fellow professionals, learn from cutting-edge research, and contribute to the ongoing efforts to combat cardiovascular disease in Scotland. Register today and join us for an engaging and informative experience.”
Cardiovascular Champion Support Manager at NRS, Mary McAuley said they hoped to repeat the success of last year’s Edinburgh event by bringing together another diverse spectrum of stakeholders in medicine, MedTech, and technology, “including digital and data companies, all eager to engage and contribute to the advancement of cardiovascular health”.
She noted that a full programme was already available for Crieff, adding: “The aim is to keep up to date with the latest in lipidology and cardiovascular risk and to promote best practices across Scotland with our meeting regularly attracting high-profile speakers in the field from Scotland and beyond.
“There will also be engaging presentations from young investigators involved in impactful cardiovascular research who are hoping to be awarded the prestigious SHARP prize on the second day of the annual meeting.”
To encourage greater participation from students and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), a special discounted residential registration rate is available.
