Modern medicine is built on medical research, and as we celebrate 70 years of the NHS our ability to translate research and innovation into excellent individual healthcare is more important than ever.
Some fantastic accomplishments, milestones, innovations and breakthroughs have been made in the NHS over the last 70 years. We are living in a future that was unimaginable back in 1948 – MRI scanners, ultrasound, transplantation, antibody therapies. Many of these discoveries originated in Scotland and transformed the lives of patients around the world, as highlighted by First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon.
Our tradition of research excellence continues to this day, through investment in basic, translational, early and late stage clinical research – driving further advances in medicines and treatments.
So with just 70 days until the official birthday of the NHS (5 July), join NHS Research Scotland in celebrating the contribution of research, science and innovation in shaping health and patient care over the last 70 years.
We have a vibrant research environment in Scotland with world-class facilities and expertise across all therapy areas, and we look forward to sharing more of our work as part of the celebrations.
